Sayulita

It was parade day for the school kids.  A couple of parents brought horses for some to ride.

This little one was sure dressed for the occasion.

A couple of the spectators even got dressed for the show.

All the grades walked down the street and around town and ended up in the carnival grounds. Then they had all kinds of speaches,No idea what they were saying so didn't hang around for them.

The owner of the trailer park called me over to show me this plant. It was right outside of the room the kids were in and he was wondering if they dropped a seed.....LOL..It was right out side there room.
This is what most of the streets around the carnival look like.

The owners of Choco banana were missing the girls. This is where they ate most of there meals. They did ask if they went home.

I just liked these carvings.   I didn't buy them though.

Another Sick Day

Sorry again folks.   We're both still down for the count.   We won't be turtling on down the road until Sunday or Monday...more likely Monday.

We did achieve one thing...our laundry got done...but I doubt anyone would be interested in photos of that.   :)

We have a game plan though.   We will head to a campground near Tequila first, then off to Lake Chapala, next is Patzcuaro and then on to El Rosario Butterfly Sanctuary.    We hope our timing is perfect so we get to see the monarchs begin their migration north....but aren't too hopeful.    Last year they began their migration on March 17th.   That is too long for us, we want to be home before April 10th, and don't want to increase our traveling speed above a nice lesurely turtle.

Our northbound route to Texas will be:
San Miguel de Allende
San Luis Potosi
Matehuala
Saltillo
Columbia

Sick Day

Sorry, neither of us have anything interesting or fun to say today.    Gerry has been down with a nasty migraine since Wednesday night, and Brenda was able to suck it up for a couple of days, but whatever flu-like thing that was hanging over her for the last few days has won the day.

It was a crappy day weather-wise, so it was a perfect day for a sick day.

We were wanting to Turtle on down the Road tomorrow, but it looks like we won't be on our way until Saturday.     Tomorrow we pack this joint up, Saturday we head to Tequila.

Sorry, no pictures.

Leaving on a jet plane

adiós niñas

It was lazy and sad day as we prepared for the girls to leave today.   They were a couple of lobsters after yesterdays adventures, and were too tender to go horseback riding or surfing this morning.    We went out for breakfast, then just sat around talking after the girls finished packing.

Air Canada was impressive.    First they had us sign documents agreeing to stay on the premises until after the plane took off.     We all wanted to stay together as long as possible before sending them through customs, so we had lunch at the airport.    When it came time to send them through customs, an Air Canada employee escorted the girls through, accompanied them as they shopped for food for the flight, and made sure they boarded the airplane and were handed off to an airline attendant who was appointed exclusively to them for the entirety of the flight.     Once the plane landed, they were to be escorted through customs, baggage claim and not left unattended.   They were only to hand off responsibility to either Sara or Tommy.

We took this picture as they walked through the door into customs, I called out their names and they looked back.   I was quickly told that we are not allowed to take pictures.    Fortunately, they didn't confiscate our camera or delete the picture already taken.  :)

When we got back to Myrtle we found a wonderful thank you note from Maddy & Ryleigh.   You are welcome girls!   We look forward to the next awesome adventure.

We are also looking forward to the other 5 grandchildren and our niece getting their turns to come to Mexico for a visit.   For some it will likely be many years.    The awesome children in our lives range from 15 to 4 years old.     We will just have to wait until they are old enough to fly home alone (or their parents want to come with them)

We just now got the update that the plane has landed in Toronto and the girls are already texting up a storm.  lol.   I'm guessing they missed that particular pass time while they were here.

Stingrays, Turtles, Whales and Isla Marietas - Great Day!

Today was a great day.We went out in a boat for a whale watching, snorkeling, and island tour.
First we cane across stingrays I have never seen them at the surface before.   We saw about 4 huge groups of them.

Then we came across this turtle.   From afar, it looked like a red blob in the water.   The girls were guessing what it could be.   Strangely, they were fairly confident it was a dog.   Seriously?  Yes, seriously, they thought a random dog was swimming in the Pacific Ocean miles from shore all by itself.    hmmm...they are smart girls....really......they are!     lmao

Gabriel (our boat driver) pulled the turtle right on the boat and the girls got to touch it.
Then we came across the humpback whales.   They are such big beautiful, magnificent creatures.

This one kept slapping its' tail on the water.   It did it a dozen times or more.   This is called lobtailing.   Some scientists theorize that lobtailing is a form of communication, while others speculate it is a means of foraging. The theory is that the loud noise causes fish to become frightened, thus tightening their school together, making it easier for the humpback to feed on them.

After the whales we went to the islands. They were quite breath taking.  There were many caves.  Gabriel drove the boat right inside this one.   Notice how the girls are sitting?   Would it surprise you that Maddy has a sunburn on the front of her legs, on her chest, and on both her arms, while Ryleigh is burnt on the back of her legs?    After 9 days in Mexico, today was the only day they got too much sun.     After they went swimming, I asked if they had sunscreen on...they both replied "yes"...what I should have asked is if they had reapplied sunscreen after swimming.

There is a beach on the other side of this rock.   The girls jumped in and swam over...thus removing their sunscreen.

We only took 1042 pictures today.....pulling out a few favourites for the blog was near impossible.   Isla Marietas is a popular excursion from all the little towns between Puerto Vallarta Sayulita, and we can certainly tell why.

It has been a pleasure having Ryleigh and Maddy here to visit with us.   Tomorrow they go back home and we will miss them.   They must have a lot of respect for us, because they were extremely well behaved...either that or they have a great deal of fear for Sara might do to them if they were to get a bad report from us.  lol      We got a fabulous picture of each of them today.

hasta la vista Isla Marietas....hasta la vista

2nd blog today - Sunset

I know we already blogged today...see Carnival below, but the sunset was so awesome tonight we had to take a few more pics.    We also had some pics of Maddy surfing all by herself today.    This young lady is determined.    Doesn't she look just like a surfer?

One hour after that amazing sunset, it was so black out the girls needed flashlights to see out onto the beach.
