San Cristobel

This was the drive from Agua Azul to San Cristobel. Do you think it was a bit foggy It was like we were driving in the clouds We would drive up a mountain and this is what it would be like till we got so high then we would drive out of them and see them below us and then back down threw them and it would be clear below them.

You can see the clouds down in the valley 

And this one you can see we are driving back up to them.

This is what you do with empty water or pop bottles make a Christmas tree. 

This is beautiful country with a lot of topes so it is a slow drive.

We could not get to the camp ground if we had a bit shorter of a RV we could have but there is no way we could get to it so we went to where the one that is in the book that is closed and found the Fiesta inn there we talked to them and ended up getting a room. I think that we are just going to stay in there parking lot for a couple of days longer. They still have all the hookups for your RV but no electricity. They said they would figure out what to charge us.

Around 4 we headed into town to walk around found centro.

And found a place to eat diner they had lots of posters about the 43 that were killed.

And lots of other art work Lara loved this place it was very trendy 

Then walked the streets some more and went back to the hotel

Lara stayed in the room and Brenda and me stayed in the RV. Let me tell you its cold here it went down to 5c last night.

Agua Azul

We left Yaxchilan and drove to Agua Azul after the ruins it took about 3 hours and it started to rain so we only walked around a little and had diner at one of the many restaurants. And waited till tomorrow for the rain to stop to see them. It stopped for awhile enough to walk up and see them but we ended up getting wet. And we never did get to see the colors well they were different colors of green but not the blue's. So we just hung around spent the night again then left early in the morning.

Yaxchilon

We left Bonampak and drove to Yaxchilon its about 30 kilometers and good roads. We just parked in the parking lot next to the Registration booth. We talked to them and decided to go the next day early morning. I paid the girl in the booth 50 pesos and she let me plug into her outlet. That night it started to rain and didnt stop all day so we just put off the ruins for another day.So the next day we left at 7 am The ride to them is in these boats it takes an hour to get to them and it was freezing  

The steps up to them was in rough shape they have been washed out from the last time we were here and the new ones were almost washed away to they were just hanging there you did not feel safe walking on them.

We road up to the ruins with a family from BC,This is me and there daughter.

To get into them you have to walk into a building and follow the tunnels or walk ways and it is pitch black. I am glad that our friends were there because they brought some flash lights

These are one of my favorite ruins well in my top 3.

This is a giant stone maybe 12 feet long or more. it in such great shape they tried to move it but they broke it because they couldn't get any thing to lift it.So they are going to just leave it here.

This place has lots of original stuff not just replicas  

Wish the picture was better this was great the back wall you can still see the colors on the wall.

You should check the blog from 2 years ago when we were here. The boat ride back was still cold.It was just a gloomy day.

Bonampak

So we left Palenque and drove to Bonampak. The roads were a lot better than 2 years ago. So it was an easy drive we came across some Howler monkeys crossing the road so we stopped. The group were split in half so we got to watch them out both sides of the RV that was fun they just stayed where they were so we got some good pictures.

There was a few shops on the walk into the ruins check out the Deer eyes they say they grow right near here I thought they came from south America.

It is a small ruins A good size square with steps up the hill to some buildings.

I think they said this was part of a chair.

But this is why you come here the murals they are the best any place. They have 3 rooms with them from the floor to the ceiling covered with them.

The colors were great.

Hard to believe they were done in 300 BC.

It only takes about an hour and a half to see all of the ruins and do the shopping.

Bonampak

Telcel does not work in Bonampak or Frontera Corozal, and I only have a couple of minutes of internet to use right now.   They use Tigo in  this area.

We found a hotel that allows us to use their internet in the lobby, for 20 pesos per hour.    I've already used up most of that hour and don't have the pictures prepped to upload yet.  

So stay tuned for an update on this post.   It might be tonight, it might not be for another day or two.

Bonampak was amazing.    It was small, but worth the trip.    Most notably are three rooms with vibrant murals in them.   All the surfaces are covered.

We spent the night in Frontera Corozal at the boat launch.    It has been raining all morning, so we will not get to Yaxchilan until perhaps tomorrow, weather permitting.

Roberto Barrios

Today was a fun day Lara heard about this place called Roberto Barrios its like La Cascads de Agua Azul. It has a lot of water falls with a bunch of pools you can swim in. The difference with this place and Agua Azul is it is not known by many people. So off we went to find it its 17 kil. back in the jungle and you can see by the way the road is growing over with vegetation its not a well traveled road. 

After we found it and paid some gut 60 pesos we followed the trail into the bush and this is the first thing we came to right then we knew we were in for a treat.

The first waterfall the girls got to walk under.

It was a beautiful place.

We had these 2 little bandits leading us down the trail every water fall we came to they asked for money and said that this was the end.  I gave them 10 pesos and they took off.

Lara couldn't wait to get in the pools

This local guy came along and lead Lara off. First had her jump off a water fall.

It did take about 5 minutes to get the courage up to do it.

Helping her back up the waterfall you could just walk right up some of them well he knew where to walk.

Brenda watching thinking she might have to jump in and save Lara.

Then he just started leading Lara all over the place.

She was loving every minute of it what an adventure for her.

Look I was there 

The guy lead Lara off into the jungle on the other side of the stream to another part of the river. He said he would take her up the river another way. They were gone for some time and then they came out right where he said they would.

Then he took her in a cave under the falls
