A different kind of Mexican Ruin...devastation in 2005 from Hurricanes Emily and Wilma

Next door to Xpu Ha there is a ruin of a different sort.
Club Maeva Tulum (formerly Robinsons Club Tulum) was hit by two hurricanes in 2005, first Emily then Wilma.   We explored it today and were struck by how they could abandon it for 7 years.    I wonder who owns it?   There is a guarded gate at the beginning of the driveway, but you can enter from the beach at several locations.

I think she was glorious in her day.

There is even a theater.   We were imagining a horror movie or Criminal Minds episode being shot here.

The property alone must be worth a small fortune.    If they just cleaned up all the garbage, broken glass and
made it semi safe, I bet they could get a lot of RVers to boondock here.

Elevator shafts....again, the making of a horror movie.

Someone cleaned up the huge palapa near the beach.

In a country where most washrooms don't have toilet seats....every room in this abandoned building still has its toilet seat!   What's up with that?   Everything else seems to have been stripped clean whether by the owners or scavengers or both.

Even all the wire was pulled out of the walls and stripped.

This adorable creature (still don't know what they are called) came crashing out of the brush like a herd of elephants...scared the bejeezus out of us!   lol

This wheelbarrow has seen its last ride.

They even had a dive shop.

  3. We stayed here in 2003 and 2004.This place was beautiful! It makes me sad to see what happened to it.We thought it had the best beach on that whole stretch of shore line.It would take a small fortutune to get it back to the way it was.

    1. I miss it so much too :( i went there as a kid (6-8) honestly i miss it bad enough i could cry... a bunch of the people who loved it should all buy it back and take some inspiration from island of bryan (on hgtv atm)... its currently in issues with the government for development because apparently theres a cenote under it which i find really cool but i wonder if youd be allowed to rebuild the old structures...
